Traveling to Taos- Photography

It had been two long days, crossing five states before we finally enter Colorado. Jeane’s workshop in Taos, New Mexico would be starting tomorrow, but with only 2-3 hours driving left, we decided to make a short side trip to see  ” The Great Sand Dunes National Park”.  Being the newest national park, we had never heard of it and thought it would only be a short divergent from driving. The park and it’s dunes lie at the base of the Rocky Mountains and turned out to be a beautiful place. We arrived about 10:00 that morning during a snow shower and had to wait for the blowing snow and wind to  die down before getting a closer look at the dunes.

Sand dunes? and Rocky Mountains

The sand dunes are 700-800 feet high and looked to be several miles long. They made a strange but beautiful sight backed by the snow-capped mountains.
